hey i'm abyan (or yan), a 20 y/o dev from sydney/jakarta.
i have a way of doing things that's... a lil out of the ordinary.
middle school, powerpoint assignment - i shot a whole minecraft movie with my buddy and made the entire class sit through it. they loved it so much we made a sequel. as one does.
9th grade, built my first app - a (definitely not credible) drugs wiki for android called Addicine. zero programming background. just pure obsession - jumping from one youtube tutorial to the next, one stack overflow thread after another - and somehow shipped the thing to the google play store. it later got banned for misinformation lol.
at 14, i got hooked on Pixel Worlds, this grindy growtopia-like game. but the ingame chores were too boring, so i wrote an OpenCV script to play for me. ended up one of the richest players in the community. oops.
speaking of games - i also hit #3 (1512 ELO) on the asia minecraft potpvp leaderboard, and top ~300 (1896 ELO) in Wizard101 ranked pvp ;) and no, i didn't cheat at these two... the links are right there, go see for yourself 😤
what else... oh - at 12, i wrote a novel and made an Alan Becker-style animation. naturally, i could neither write nor animate at the time. my school still keeps copies in the library to this day - the embarrassment is through the roof.
basically, i've always had this thing for going after stuff that's a bit out of reach.
so when i refused to spend my life grinding 500 leetcode problems for a job, i tried to start a company instead. i was building POCs for prospects, writing pilot proposals, talking to incubators, getting invited to chat with C-level execs - the whole startup jazz. this one i couldn't quite yolo through. it was rough... but if it had somehow worked out, i think it would've made at least some impact.
somewhere in there it clicked: i like impact. i want to be useful.
i want to spend my life doing as much good as i can.
today, i'm an FDE at Lyra, shipping for some of the most impressive startups in the world. also a penultimate-year computing student at USYD.
excited for what's next :)
